Cotati Habitat for Humanity - Woodland Hills
With a deep commitment to community involvement, Firma Design Group (FDG) donated landscape architectural services to Habitat For Humanity’s five unit, low-income housing development known as Woodland Hills. FDG provided design and consultation services consisting of a rendered planting plan for all common areas, construction detailing, layout of good neighbor fences and water use analysis as requested by the City of Cotati. FDG also assisted in project coordination between the non-profit client, project architect, civil engineer, and City of Cotati Community Development Department.
Given the sustainable goals of the project, the landscape planting plan emphasized California native plants typically found throughout Sonoma County for their water, soil and solar requirements and ability to adapt to site conditions. The specified plants are also low-maintenance and provide year-round interest for residents to enjoy. The use of Redwood trees on site tied the property into the landscape fabric of the surrounding properties and paid homage to the Redwood Empire as Sonoma County is known.
