Living Classroom – Heron Head Park,

This project consisted of building a new classroom on an old bay mud fill site owned by the Port of San Francisco. The overall project site was approximately 1 acre. Work included coordinating with project team to prepare grading, drainage, and utility plans for this new building. Specific site challenges included design for differential settlement (due to bay mud), and severe excavation restrictions due to an existing clay cap liner over contaminated soils below which cannot be disturbed. At least two years of community coordination and approval was required before the Port and City of San Francisco agreed to approve construction of the project.
